Dr. Peter Kobe joined the faculty of Los Angeles Baptist College in 1968. By the time he left the school in 1976, he had changed the music department forever.

Originally from northern Indiana, Kobe — a talented musician, choral director, and worship leader — came to LABC to be the head of its budding music department. Among other things, Kobe was responsible for founding The Reflections, an ensemble group of traveling student musicians who toured across the country, raising awareness for the school. Later groups such as Majesty and Doxology continued in that same tradition.

One colleague said of Kobe, “While his personal musical talent was recognized, his greatest ministry lay in the spiritual influence on the lives of his students and on the spiritual tone of the entire school. The testimony of Christ displayed in the programs presented by this department has helped project the best of LABC to the constituency.”

In 1976, Kobe returned to Indiana to serve at Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne. After a full life of faithful service, Kobe went to be with the Lord in 2023, at the age of 80. His legacy is remembered by the many who were personally touched by his music, leadership, and impact on the music program at TMU.
